Arsenal will have to turn things around against Porto tonight if they are to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Gunners went top of the Premier League this weekend after a late winner from Kai Havertz saw them edge past Brentford and focus now turns to overcoming Porto.

Mikel Arteta’s side were beaten 1-0 in Portugal last month on a frustrating night. Still, they are in fine fettle going forward and will surely fancy their chances at turning things around at home.

Tasked with overcoming a one-goal deficit, Arsenal are at home against Porto for the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie on Wednesday. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was subjected to a cheeky dig from his counterpart after the Portuguese outfit clinched the first leg 1-0.

Arsenal vs Porto kick-off time & stadium

Date: March 13, 2024

Kick-off time: 7 am AEDT

Venue: Emirates Stadium

The UEFA Champions League match between Arsenal and FC Porto will be played at the Emirates Stadium in London, England.

It will kick off at 7 am AEDT on Tuesday, March 13, in Australia.

While it is unlikely that Gabriel Martinelli will be available for the game after suffering a gash on his foot in the six-goal thrashing of Sheffield United before the weekend's 2-1 league win over Brentford, Jurrien Timber is ruled out with an ACL injury.

Goalkeeper David Raya is in line to take the gloves from Aaron Ramsdale after the former ineligible to face his parent club the last time out.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is a major doubt due to a knock, but Oleksandr Zinchenko returned in the previous game after recovering from a calf problem.

Arsenal possible XI: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Odegaard, Jorginho, Rice; Saka, Havertz, Jesus

Left-back Wendell has come good from the knock he sustained in the first leg, while the likes of Zaidu Sanusi and Ivan Marcano would remain sidelined with ACL injuries.

Forward Mehdi Taremi, who missed the Porto leg, is expected to be available for selection after recovering from a thigh problem. However, the in-form Evanilson should be handed a start in attack.

Porto boss Francisco Conceicao will also name a familiar back four around veteran defender Pepe.

Porto possible XI: Costa; Mario, Pepe, Otavio, Wendell; Varela, Gonzalez; Conceicao, Pepe, Galeno; Evanilson

The Gunners lost 1-0 in Porto last month, leaving them with a lot to do at the Emirates Stadium as Mikel Arteta eyes a first quarter-final in this competition for 14 years.

Full of confidence and flying in the Premier League, the hosts will fancy their chances. Though the Portuguese giants can not be overlooked, Arsenal look on a different level.

The Gunners produced a cautious and flat performance three weeks ago in Porto and contrived to lose 1-0 after Galeno scored superbly late on. Thus, there's work for Mikel Arteta's side to do if they're to qualify for the quarter-finals of this competition for the first time since 2010.

Arsenal have remained imperious domestically since their defeat in Portugal and are heading into Tuesday's game having ended the weekend at the top of the Premier League table.

Porto, meanwhile, are lingering in the Primeira Liga title race after thumping Benfica 5-0 two weeks ago. Sergio Conceicao's side are unbeaten in six and are looking to complete the upset in north London after taming the Gunners in the first leg.

English Premier League leaders Arsenal, who are trailing 0-1 on the aggregate, will be looking to come back into the contest when they host Portuguese club FC Porto for their reverse leg Round of 16 fixture of the Uefa Champions League 2023-24 on Wednesday, March 13 according to the Indian Standard Time.

Porto on the other hand would be looking to continue their dominant form and a win or even a draw at the Emirates Stadium in London could see them enter the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the 10th time. They are two-time champions as well. Arsenal on the other hand have played in only one final and never won the league.

Since Arsenal will be playing at home, they are the favourites without any doubt. However, they are trailing 0-1 on the aggregate score from the first round therefore they must win it outright as a draw could knock them out of the league.

The two teams have been very fierce in their last five meetings with the Gunners only loss coming against the side from Portugal in their previous meeting. Porto on the other hand has no loss to their name. They might not be the favourite for an outright win butcano trounce the big English club at their home.

David Raya will surely return in goal for the Gunners after he was unable to play against his parent club on Saturday due to the terms of his loan move.

Aaron Ramsdale did not exactly cover himself in glory when standing in, albeit the England stopper did make some good saves. Gabriel Martinelli is a worry after appearing to leave the Emirates on Saturday wearing a protective boot.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is believed to be the only other Arsenal injury concern at this stage.

For the visitors, Mehdi Taremi is thought to be fit from the off after missing the first leg. Wendell has also recovered from a thigh issue suffered in that game.

The Gunners breezed into the knockout stages after topping Group B, claiming 13 points from a possible 18. After big wins over Liverpool, West Ham and Burnley in the English Premier League, the only dent to the confidence of Mikel Arteta's side is that defender Takehiro Tomiyasu and striker Gabriel Jesus are major injury doubts for this tie.

Two-time UEFA Champions League winners Porto qualified for the last 16 after finishing second behind Barcelona in Group H, with Brazilian striker Evanilson the man to watch for the Portuguese side.
